This set of THREE hand carved Balinese masks depict the traditional expressions that tell the folk tales of the Balinese culture, which are taught to each generation. I purchased the set in Kuta a town in Bali in the mid 1980’s. I was told they were from the late 1950’s.
THE GREEN ONE HAS BEEN SOLD. The three remaining masks have wonderful patina. What is special about the set is the last mask that is pictured looks more Japanese or Chinese. I do not know why this particular mask looks so different from the rest of the Indonesian/Balinese population.
I think this set makes an artistically handsome and ethnic statement displayed on a wall.
